Winter Football League - History



2005: In their inaugural year the WFL initiated a successful pilot program starting with 4 youth teams, 12 players per team for 6 man full contact indoor football. These 4 teams were comprised of players from 3 different towns that participated in Shoreline Youth Football during the fall 2004 season.

2006: The WFL expanded from 4 teams to 8 teams with 2 divisions. The Youth Division included players 9-10 years old that had played at least 1 year of Youth Football. The Youth Plus Division included players 10-11 years old that had played as a second year Youth or first year Junior. The teams were comprised of players from 8 different towns that participated in Shoreline Youth Football during the fall 2005 season.

2007: The WFL expanded to 16 teams with 8 teams in the Youth Division and 8 teams in the Junior Division from 13 different towns. To qualify you must have participated in either Youth or Junior Football in the Shoreline Youth Football league during the fall 2006 season. A weight limit of 155 pounds was imposed for the 2007 season.

2008: The WFL expanded to 18 Teams with 6 teams in the Youth Division, 6 Teams in the Junior Division playing 7 man football and 4 teams in the Senior Division playing 8 man football. Additionally the WFL was proud to have 2 teams from the POP Warner Division participate with a total of 16 different towns represented in WFL 2008.

2009: The WFL returned to the popular format of Texas Six Man Football at the Youth and Junior Level and 7 Man Football at the Senior level. Also in 2009, the Shoreline Youth Football, American Youth Football & Pop Warner Leagues participated in exhibition games with Long Island Youth Football.
